No ‘Envelopegate,’ but the 90th Oscars still had its moments

While the 90th Academy Awards Sunday night didn’t end on as dramatic a note as last year’s Best Picture “Envelopegate,” there were still plenty of memorable moments that had the Twitterverse all a-flutter.

Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the nearly four-hour live event at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

Like many social media users, I took to Twitter to live-tweet (and retweet) the event — here are just some of the highlights:

• Jimmy Kimmel’s Opening Monologue

The entire thing is available for your viewing pleasure online, courtesy of YouTube:

• Kimmel found an interesting way to try and shorten the already marathon-long evening with a prize

• Later in the night, Kimmel decided to thank moviegoers by having them served food by some famous people because, why not?

• I decided on next year’s hosts — hear that Academy Awards Powers That Be? (Be sure to click the GIPHY)

• Some “celebrities” decided to find other ways to keep themselves occupied during the awards show

• Songs were sung — with one causing a particular mess (I’m looking at you Coco)

• Some history was made

• Oh yeah, and some awards were given out

• The #MeToo and #TimesUp movements were highlighted

• Some winners took the opportunity to make some poignant speeches

• Guillermo Del Toro even jokingly (or with a bit of fear in his heart) checked the envelope to make sure the results for Best Picture was correct

• But let’s not forget the most important prize that went out that night:
